Press Release:

There’s something about a good story that fires the imagination, and people of all ages are enthralled by a masterful tale told well.

That kind of magic will happen Saturday, July 21 at the South Carolina State Museum during its annual storytelling concert, which will feature stories from members of the South Carolina Storytelling Network.  Museum guests also can learn the techniques of good storytelling themselves.

“These storytellers represent the best of their craft,” said Public Programs Manager Julia Hill.  “We at the State Museum are pleased to have the opportunity each year to showcase their talents and share these great stories with our guests.”

At 1 p.m. a two-hour storytellers’ workshop will be led by Kelly Swanson, president of the North Carolina Storytelling Guild.  Ms. Swanson will provide information about finding storytelling opportunities outside traditional venues.  For information or to register, call or e-mail Claire Willet at (843) 571-2178 or junustales@bellsouth.net.

From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. network members will tell fables, fairytales, historical and personal stories guaranteed to entertain, relieve stress, tickle listeners” funny bones and maybe even tug at their heart strings.

“The State Museum is the perfect place to present these wonderful stories,” said Hill.  “Our very purpose is to tell South Carolina’s stories, and there are many great ones to tell.”

The stories and workshop are free with regular museum admission.  For more information call (803) 898-4902.
