Press Release:

On Thursday evening, Dec. 20, children and their parents can celebrate the beginning of the winter school break with “A Night to Believe,” a featured highlight of the South Carolina State Museum’s new holiday tradition, Winter Fest.

The magical holiday classic, “The Polar Express,” is the centerpiece of “A Night to Believe.” The book and the movie based upon it tell the story of a boy’s quest to believe in all the innocence and enchantment Santa Claus represents.

At the State Museum, guests are invited to attend in pajamas and robes just as the children making their Christmas Eve journey to the North Pole on the Polar Express did. A light, kid-friendly supper will be served from 5 – 6 p.m. followed by a reading of “The Polar Express” by popular television anchorman Craig Melvin of WIS-TV. Then in the Museum’s auditorium, the film will then be shown, complete with popcorn.

The evening will be topped off by cookies and hot chocolate and an appearance by a “very special visitor.”

Tickets cost $5 and include the movie, all food and beverages. For those who just want to watch the movie, it’s free. To make a reservation, please call 898-4999.

Winter Fest continues through Sunday, Dec. 30. It will feature hayrides at the Museum on Dec. 22, holiday crafts daily from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and planetarium shows on seasons, constellations and moon phases in the portable mini-planetarium Star Lab Dec. 26-29.
For more information and a full schedule of events and fees, call (803) 898-4952 or visit www.southcarolinastatemuseum.org.
