Press Release:

“Oh the weather outside is frightful” but the discounts at the South Carolina State Museum will be “so delightful” for all current state employees on Monday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Just in time for the holidays, all South Carolina state employees will receive a 10 per cent discount off all purchases at the museum store, the Cotton Mill Exchange, and at the Crescent Café,” said Director of Revenue Scottie Ash.

For those looking for unique gifts that can’t be found anywhere else, the Cotton Mill Exchange is the place.  Educational toys for inquisitive children abound along with the most delightful selection of stuffed animals and clothing for children and grandchildren.

“We have the largest selection of items with the Palmetto tree symbol in the state.  So if you're looking for jewelry, neckties, glassware, shirts, caps and jackets with the Palmetto we’ve got it,” added Ash.  “And don’t forget about books.  We have a large number of books ranging from cookbooks to natural history, art and, of course, lots of history books.”

This year the store is carrying a wide assortment of new items for the holiday season, some of them designed exclusively for the museum store.  Carolina Christmas holiday platters, cookies with the flavors of the lowcountry, guest towels emblazoned with palmetto trees draped in holiday lights and Christmas cards created by South Carolina artists are just some of the seasonal selections at the Cotton Mill Exchange.

Shoppers needing a break can stop by the Crescent Café for a great light lunch or a cup of coffee.  "And don’t forget to take home some of the museum’s own special fudge.  It's fresh, made on-site and comes in a variety of delicious flavors," said Ash.  The 10 percent discount also applies to all purchases in the Crescent Café.

To receive the discount, State Employees need only bring their state agency i.d. There is no admission charge to enter the Cotton Mill Exchange or the Crescent Café.

Museum members who are state employees will receive a 20 per cent discount on all purchases.  The museum membership card must be presented along with the employee's state agency i.d.

Eager shoppers can “pre-shop” a sample of the wide variety of the store’s unique items at its website, www.cottonmillexchange.com.

"Mark your calendars for Monday, Dec. 10 for a great discounted shopping experience at the State Museum," added Ash.

The store will is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 23.  It will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
