Press Release:

The holidays are approaching, and one of the best annual traditions in the state is to bring the family to visit the beautiful Festival of Trees, this year on Nov. 17 and 18 at the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia.

Those young and young at heart will enjoy hundreds of decorated Christmas trees, wreaths and other creations in the Museum’s atrium.   As an added bonus, visitors to this magical event receive free admission to both the Festival of Trees and the Museum on both days, says Director of Programs Meika Samuel.

“This partnership between Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital and the State Museum is a special holiday gift to the whole state.  We’re excited to bring this yearly tradition to the people of South Carolina.”

In addition, the Three Rivers Storytelling Guild will hold its annual “Tellabration,” the celebration of the art of storytelling, from 3-5 p.m. on Nov. 17.  What’s more, Museum members will enjoy a special day of gift shopping the 17th.  The normal members’ discount of 10 percent in the Museum’s charming and unique store, the Cotton Mill Exchange, will be doubled that day to 20 percent, just in time for holiday gift giving.

“The same discount also applies to the Crescent Café,” says Samuel.  “The wide variety of homemade fudge is ideal for gift giving to friends and family members with a sweet tooth, and the many delicious flavors are changed throughout the season.

“What a perfect time to get into the holiday mood with the wonderful traditions of the Festival of Trees, the great exhibits and programs of the State Museum and the enchanting seasonal tales woven by the Three Rivers storytellers.”

Now in its 18th year, the Festival of Trees raises money to support the capital campaign for Children’s Hospital, where more than 82,000 children are treated every year.
