The South Carolina State Museum, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, will offer free admission on Saturday, Sept. 29 during the annual Smithsonian Museum Day.
Museum Day is an annual event during which museums and cultural institutions nationwide open their doors free of charge to the readers of Smithsonian magazine. Celebrating culture, learning and knowledge, Museum Day reflects the spirit of the Smithsonian and the South Carolina State Museum.
The State Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate, will offer free general admission on Sept. 29 to attendees and one guest who present a Smithsonian Museum Day admission card. The card may be found in the September issue of Smithsonian magazine or is printable at the Smithsonian web site.
"As an attraction that has often been referred to as the 'Smithsonian of the South,' we're pleased to offer this free day to Smithsonian members and others to come explore the culture, heritage and uniqueness of the Palmetto State that is available every day here at the State Museum," said Tut Underwood, the museum's public information director.
State Museum members can join the Smithsonian for only $12. As an extra bonus, State Museum members joining the Smithsonian on September 29 will receive a Smithsonian tote bag.
