Press Release:

(Columbia, SC) – South Carolina Secretary of State Mark Hammond is one of ten emerging leaders from across the nation selected for the prestigious Rising State Leaders Program sponsored by the Canadian Embassy and Canada’s network of Consulates General.

This third-annual leadership program seeks to provide outstanding state leaders with an appreciation of the remarkable Canada-United States relationship.  This year's dynamic program will build and foster relationships with U.S. leaders at the state level while introducing the selected candidates to a deeper understanding of Canada.  The participants will travel to six Canadian cities where they will meet with political and business leaders and focus on a number of themes including trade, energy, security, and culture.

Secretary Hammond was nominated by the Canadian Embassy and Canadian Consulates General based on his participation in last summer’s Council of State Government’s Henry Toll Fellowship Program.

Other participants include State Representatives from Wyoming, Kansas, Vermont, and Wisconsin; Senators from Indiana, Ohio, and Minnesota; and a delegate from Maryland.

For more information on the Rising State Leaders Program, please contact Sasha Sutcliff-Stephenson, Program Liaison at (202) 448-6479.

The Honorable Mark Hammond,
South Carolina Secretary of State
