Press Release:

Columbia, SC (October 15, 2007) – South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) employee Cynthia Bellamy became the recipient of the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries’ (NASPL) Ott Brown Scholarship. This scholarship is designed to send a lottery industry professional to the NASPL Lottery Leadership Institute, a one-week program geared to enhancing individual job skills. The presentation was made at the NASPL and World Lottery Association Joint Conference held recently in Louisville, Kentucky.

Bellamy is a Human Resource Generalist II and has been employed by the SCEL since September 2001. Bellamy has held several positions with SCEL, including overseeing the claims centers, working with the non-traditional revenue initiative, and coordinating records retention for the agency. Her primary responsibilities include oversight of the Small and Minority Business Program, coordinating staff development and training, publishing an employee newsletter, and directing the SCEL Internship Program.

“Cynthia is an asset to SCEL and an example of the high caliber of employees we have been fortunate enough to employ. The scholarship will give her an opportunity to learn and contribute more to both our industry and our agency,” according to Ernie Passailaigue, SCEL Executive Director and newly elected President of NASPL.

SCEL markets fun and entertaining games in a responsible manner. The funds are appropriated by the General Assembly to supplement educational programs. Since start up, more than $1.74 billion in lottery proceeds has been appropriated towards educational programs including K-12 programs, the Endowed Chairs Program at South Carolina’s three research universities, and higher education scholarships.  Learn more about how education is winning by visiting www.sceducationlottery.com — Where Education Wins!
