COLUMBIA
, SC – Nothing’s more American than baseball, hotdogs, and Mom’s “peach” pie – made with Certified SC Grown peaches.
To celebrate South Carolina’s peach harvest season and the South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s Certified SC Grown program, Hugh Weathers, Commissioner of Agriculture, invites everyone to join him for “Peach Night” at the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, home of the Charleston RiverDogs, on Friday, June 27.
Commissioner Weathers will sing the National Anthem during the pre-game activities and throw out the first ‘peach’ as the RiverDogs take on the Columbus Catfish at "The Joe.”
“Nothing says South Carolina like a tasty peach and baseball,” Weathers said. “And South Carolina is the ‘Tastier Peach State.’” The Certified SC program which was launched in May 2007 is an exciting public-private partnership among producers, processors, wholesalers, retailers and the South Carolina Department of Agriculture to brand and promote South Carolina products. The Department’s goal is for consumers to be able to easily identify, find and buy South Carolina products by building brand awareness.
Each guest to the game will receive a South Carolina peach as they leave the ballpark. Commissioner Weathers added, “Nothing’s fresher. Nothing’s finer. Look for and buy South Carolina’s tastier peach.”
“The Joe” is located at 360 Fishburne Street in Charleston. The game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. For tickets, call the RiverDogs box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or visit their website at www.riverdogs.com.
