CHARLESTON – The Shoreline Change Advisory Committee will meet on May 8 in Charleston, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

The committee will receive presentations and conduct facilitated discussions about issues related to shoreline management and beachfront erosion control.

The committee will set aside a 30-minute public comment period beginning at 4 p.m. for citizens to express their concerns and ideas. Written comments will be accepted throughout the committee process and can be submitted to DHEC’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management by e-mailing Braxton Davis at: davisbc@dhec.sc.gov.

Organized by DHEC, the Shoreline Change Advisory Committee is composed of a broad cross-section of stakeholders including scientists, coastal managers, municipal officials, developers, conservationists and legal professionals. The committee’s purpose is to organize existing shoreline research, identify research priority needs and consider policy-related issues concerning management of South Carolina’s estuarine and beachfront shorelines.
