COLUMBIA – Charleston’s WCSC-TV has joined the Champions of the Environment Partnership, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
“We are pleased to be partnering with WCSC to bring the message of Champions of the Environment to the Lowcountry where the environment is vital to human health and the economy,” said David Wilson, chief for DHEC’s Bureau of Water.
Wilson said WCSC, known throughout the Lowcountry as Live 5, has joined International Paper, WIS-TV, Eastman Chemical Company and DHEC as a sponsor of Champions of the Environment. This public-private partnership rewards South Carolina’s students and teachers for their efforts to protect and improve the environment through hands-on projects and awareness activities.
Champions of the Environment has been rewarding students and schools for environmental initiatives since 1993. Outstanding environmental projects receive funds through the Grant Award Program while sixth, seventh and eighth graders are rewarded for environmental knowledge and creativity through the Environmental Awareness Middle School Competition. More than $150,000 has been awarded to students, schools and environmental educators across South Carolina.
