Press Release:
Charleston, SC -  The Charleston Area Convention Center will host television game show “Wheel of Fortune,” shooting three weeks of shows in Charleston from January 12-14, 2007. It will be the first time the syndicated program has traveled to South Carolina, and will feature the return of North Myrtle Beach native and famous letter-turner Vanna White.

During their time in Charleston, Wheel of Fortune will have a specially-designed set at the Convention Center that will feature familiar images of the city. They will also tape Country Music Stars Week, in which Wheel contestants are teamed up with top country recording artists, with the stars’ winnings going to a charity of their choice.

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford supported legislation for added incentives this past year that has resulted in a flurry of television and motion picture activity for the state. In 2006, six other projects have used the Palmetto State as a locale for filming, including the new Universal Pictures project Leatherheads, starring George Clooney, and Touchstone Television’s pilot Army Wives.

“The motion picture and television industries are continuing to find South Carolina an ideal location for filming, which is a real testament to the importance of our focus on this industry during the past legislative session," said Governor Sanford. “A project like this that allows South Carolina to reach the eyes and ears of people across the country is an important chance to showcase our state’s tourism opportunities and quality of life.”

“Governor Sanford’s continued commitment to the film industry is paying dividends for our state,” said Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor. “From helping productions find the right venue, to providing projects with qualified workers, this is another way for Commerce’s film commission to promote South Carolina as a great place to live and work.”

Wheel of Fortune has ranked as television’s #1 syndicated series for 89 consecutive sweeps ratings periods. The program marked the beginning of its 24th season in September of 2006.
