Press Release:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (November 1, 2007)  — An in-depth exhibit chronicling forgotten South Carolina stories from World War I will open November 9 in a new wing at the Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum (CRR).

“Forgotten Stories: S.C. Fights the Great War,” which debuts just in time for Veteran’s Day, will be the showcase exhibit in the museum’s expansive new wing in the renovated Columbia Mills building.

The one-of-a-kind exhibit, which features interactive kiosks and a simulated trench section, is designed to encourage individual connections with long-lost S.C. heroes. In addition to the public debut of a newly restored flag from 371st African-American Regiment, visitors will see handmade patches, everyday sewing kits, uniforms, artillery shells, barbed wire, letters and even a German machine gun.

To learn more about the CRR, visit www.crr.sc.gov or call (803) 737-8095. Adult admission is $4, and school tours are free. The museum will remain open during the Veteran’s Day holiday on Monday, November 12, to honor S.C. soldiers from the past and present.
