Auctions, Discounts Slated for State Surplus Property May Mega Sales
Cars, trucks, boats, ATVs and computers will be on sale this month as the Budget and Control Board’s Surplus Property Program hosts its biggest money-saving events of the year.
The May Mega Sales will kick off May 16 with an auction of Department of Transporation items, inclluding cars, trucks, backhoes and other heavy equipment. The auction will be held May 16 at 10 a.m. at the DOT facility at 1500 Shop Road, Columbia. Pre-sale inspections will be held May 15 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and Wednesday May 16 from 8:30-9:45 a.m.
Boaters will be especially interested in the May 23 auction of Department of Natural Resources surplus equipment. Among the items slated for public auction are 27 boats and more than 40 outboard motors. Also up for sale will be 13 ATVs, 40 large pickup trucks and other equipment.
The DNR auction will be held at 10 a.m. May 23 at 2760 Fish Hatchery Road, West Columbia, 23, 2007 10 a.m. Inspection will be held Tuesday May 22 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday May 23, 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
More great deals will be available May 29-June 8 when the S.C. Surplus Property Warehouse in West Columbia holds its annual spring inventory sale. Every item in stock will be 70 precent off (vehicles, industrial and heavy equipment excluded.) That means the rock-bottom prices on computers, electronics and office equipment will be even lower.
The Surplus Property Program sells items that are no longer needed by state agencies but still have a useful life. The items are first offered to other government entities and qualified non-profits before they are sold to the public. Proceeds are returned to the agencies to offset the cost of buying new equipment.
