Looking for a unique holiday gift for someone on your shopping list? The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum Gift Shop will be offering a 10 percent discount to all state employees Monday, December 10 from 10am to 5pm.
 
The museum will also be offering reduced admission Monday. The entry charge will be just $2.00 for adults with those under 21 will be admitted free. Usually closed on Mondays, the museum is open with special pricing in an effort to raise awareness throughout the community about the importance of preserving South Carolina’s military heritage. 
 
Boasting an array of different products, the museum gift shop has gifts that appeal to a variety of people. Featured items include a complete line of Carolina Girl products which range from coffee tumblers to tote bags. For those who enjoy home decoration and accessories, check out the brass-plated book ends, linen hand towels or silver hors d'oeuvres tray. Men will enjoy the selection of palmetto tree silk ties, available in garnet, blue or orange.
 
Those with a love for history can peruse through numerous books detailing South Carolina history as well as original souvenirs created after the renovation of the State House from 1991-1998. Parents will appreciate the selection of historical toys and books for children.

In addition to the permanent exhibit, which highlights South Carolina’s military history from the Revolutionary War through World War II, visitors also can tour the museum’s latest exhibit, “Forgotten Stories: SC Fights the Great War.”  The in-depth exhibit chronicles forgotten South Carolina stories from World War I and opened recently in a new wing of the museum.
 
This one-of-a-kind exhibit, which features interactive kiosks and a simulated trench area, is designed to encourage individual connections to forgotten aspects of the war. Some of the highlighted stories include the African-American 371st Regiment, women in the American Red Cross, aviation pioneers, military bands, and advanced warfare techniques.
