RAVENEL ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF TRANSITION TEAM
South Carolina Treasurer-elect Assembles Advisory Group, Puts Credit Rating & Investment Modernization Atop Priority List

Columbia, S.C. – December 1, 2006 – South Carolina Treasurer-elect Thomas Ravenel today announced the formation of a transition team to advise him in the weeks leading up to his swearing-in as State Treasurer on January 10, 2007.

Serving on Treasurer-elect Ravenel’s transition team are: two-time former Revenue Director Burnie Maybank (Chairman), Comptroller General and former Treasurer Richard Eckstrom, former U.S. Ambassador and Commerce Secretary Bob Royall, State Ports Authority Board Chairman Bill Stern, Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor, former York County Treasurer and Rock Hill Performance Manager Anne Bunton, First Citizens Executive Vice President and SC State Ports Authority Board member James Bennett, Columbia businessman and President of the SC Economic Developers’ Association Deepal Eliatamby  and Columbia attorney, Ken Wingate.

“There’s a wealth of financial expertise, government experience, vision and leadership included in this group,” Ravenel said. “Each one of these individuals is a proven asset to the people of South Carolina, and I’m tremendously grateful they’ve agreed to volunteer their time and talents to our transition team.”

Ravenel said his priorities were increasing earnings on state deposits by liberalizing the state’s collaterization requirements, as well as investment options for the Treasurer’s office, investing more of the state’s deposits in South Carolina banks, including the local government investment pool, as well as supporting the Governor’s efforts on restructuring.

“We talked about these hot spots during the campaign,” said Ravenel. “Now it’s time to start assembling coalitions capable of delivering lasting solutions on behalf of the taxpayers.”

Ravenel said he is also looking forward to working with Gov. Mark Sanford, members of the Budget and Control Board and members of the legislative branch.
