Free Seminars Available to State Health Plan Members in April

South Carolina’s new program designed to help tobacco users quit for life will be among the featured topics at special health seminars for public sector workers in four cities this month.

 

The Budget and Control Board’s State Health Plan Prevention Partners is sponsoring the Living Your Healthiest Life Tour to give public sector workers and their families the latest tools to maximize their well-being.

 

The program is free and open to all employees and retirees of employers covered by the Employee Insurance Program, which includes university and school district employees. It is also free to their dependents. Each seminar will last from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

 

Tour stops include:

 

  • April 17 – Francis Marion University Palmetto Room Dining Room.
  • April 18 –  April 18 Beaufort-Jasper Water Sewer Authority, 6 Snake Road
    Okatie, S.C
  • April 19 – Richland County Adult Activity Center, 7494 Parklane Road in Northeast Columbia.
  • April 20 – Berkeley County Government Building, 1003 Highway 52, Moncks Corner.1003 Hwy 52, Moncks Corner

 Participants will learn about these topics:

 

  • Quit For Life (all four cities).
  • Reaching Your Nutrition Peak (Florence).
  • Prevention of Chronic Diseases (Okatie/Beaufort).
  • Meet MyPyramid – Understanding the New USDA Food Pyramid (Moncks Corner).
  • Do Your Part for a Healthy Heart (Columbia).
  • Weight Loss Skills (all four cities).

 

Quit For Life is a research-based program that has been very successful in helping people to quit tobacco. A Free & Clear Quit Coach works with each participant to create a personalized quit plan.  Free nicotine replacement products, such as patches, gum or lozenges, are available through Free & Clear.
