Press Release:

Looking to enjoy the great outdoors this summer? The Budget and Control Board’s Surplus Property Program has some sweet deals to help you get there.

Boats, all-terrain vehicles, personal watercraft, outboard motors, boat trailers and a large number of cars and trucks will be among the featured items at a special auction of surplus items from the S.C Department of Natural Resources Wednesday May 17.  The auction will be held at the DNR Styx Receiving Compound at 2760 Fish Hatchery Road in West Columbia.

Bidding will begin at 10 a.m. Bidders may begin registering at 8:30 a.m on that date. Items may be previewed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 at the Styx compound.

“We expect this to be one of our biggest auctions of the year,” said Shawn Powers, manager of the Surplus Property Program. “Typically, we do not have a lot of boats and other outdoor gear for sale so this auction is going to be exciting.”

Inventory slated for auction include more than two-dozen boats, most with outboard motors and trailers, two personal watercraft, and more than 30 outboard motors. Also slated for auction are about 60 vehicles, including many Jeep Cherokee and Ford Bronco 4 x 4s.

Each of the 190 items will be auctioned to the highest bidder. All sales are final and there are no guarantees about the operability or condition of the items. Winners must pay by money, order, check or cash and remove their items within two days of the sale.
