- The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) has become the first Lottery verified on the Technical Standard established by the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) for Extensible Markup Language (XML) Retail Accounting Reports. - COLUMBIA – The Conditionally Approved shellfish beds in Murrells Inlet and North Santee Bay in Georgetown County have been closed to harvesting because of excessive rainfall and the potential for contamination, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

- The American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is pleased to announce Dr. Nancy P. Zimmerman as the recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Service Award. Zimmerman, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs of The Graduate School and an associate professor in the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina, will receive the award at the AASL Awards Luncheon during the 2008 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim.

- The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded grants totaling $946,700 to six South Carolina organizations during its second round of fiscal 2008 funding.
